Dr. Arthur E. Wood, Jr., 83, was born September 30, 1926, and raised, in Clinton, MS. He died February 14, 2010 in Wayne General Hospital, Waynesboro, MS. He served in active duty in the U.S. Navy and later in the U.S. Army, also serving in Mississippi National Guard. He graduated from Mississippi College with B.S. in Chemistry in 1946 and graduated from Tulane Medical School in 1954. He received a law degree from Jackson School of Law in 1963. He served as a practicing physician in Citronelle, AL, State Line, Clinton, Belzoni and Inverness, MS. He served in Waynesboro from 1985 to 1993, practicing for a total of 49 years. He loved to travel with his wife of 34 years, Nancy, and to also attend events at Mississippi College. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Inverness, MS. He was preceded in death by his Father, Dr. A. E. Wood, Sr. and Mother, Anne Wood; Brother, Dr. J.P. Wood; Sister, Eleanor Parker; Granddaughter, Polla Cooper Wood. Dr. Wood is survived by his wife, Nancy Wood; 3 Daughters, Janice Streetman of Tampa, FL, Anne Wood of Hattiesburg, and Mari Farrar of Waynesboro; Son, Dr. Arthur E. Wood, III of Waynesboro; 2 Step-Sons, Gary Bridges and Mike Bridges of Houston, TX; 11 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild. Visitation for Dr. Wood will be held from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, February 16, 2010 in the Chapel of Freeman Funeral Home, Waynesboro, MS with Funeral Services to follow at 7:00 PM Tuesday in the Chapel with Rev. Whit Lewis, Dr. John Stodghill and Rev. Danny Prater officiating. A visitation will also be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Clinton, MS. A Graveside Service will held at 11:00 AM Wednesday in the Clinton Cemetery in Clinton, MS.
