Bobbye Ruth Smith

Bobbye Ruth Hood Smith passed away peacefully at her home in Citronelle, Alabama on Friday, July 20, 2018. She was born to Elizabeth Ruth and William Moody Hood in Slate Springs, Mississippi on December 1, 1934. She retired from South Alabama Utilities after 33 years of service and was very active in the community as a member of the First Baptist Church in Citronelle and Cross Point Baptist Church, Citronelle Garden Club, Citronelle Woman’s Club and Citronelle Senior Citizens. She was married to Ira I. Smith, Sr. for 57 years until his death in 2011. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Roland Hood; and grandsons, Andin Paul Rowell and Justin Taylor Billa. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Ken Smith (Denise), Joy Newsome (Pete) and Ira Smith, Jr. (Fran); grandchildren, Jay Rowell (Sonia), Rick Newsome (Brittany), Shelly Matherne, Erin Billa, Brent Smith, Kurt Smith (Diana), Kendell Lewis (Mark) and Karlee Smith; great grandchildren, Toby, Oakley, Jonathan, Reed, Ethan, Tristan, Avian, Taylor, Amelia, Cullen, Michael, Kaden and Maddie; brother, Bill Hood (Nan); a devoted sister-in-law, Audrey Smith; special friend and caregiver, LeAnn James; her sweet puppy, Bella; other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 9am until the 11am funeral service on Monday, July 23, 2018 at Cross Point Baptist Church with Dr. Eddie Bates officiating. Burial will be in Pine Crest Cemetery.
