Brighten Koda Brooks, a resident of Mount Vernon, Alabama, passed away Friday, January 07, 2022. He was 16 years old. Brighten was born April 16, 2005 to Lisa Harris and Tony Brooks. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, he loved his coon dogs, he enjoyed Alabama football, and most importantly, he loved his family. Brighten has a special bond with all of his siblings, but especially his special needs sibling. His girlfriend, Angel, also held a special place in his heart. He was always very outgoing and was always fun to be around. He had a strong work ethic and loved to joke around. Brighten was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Brighten was preceded in death by his Nana, Edith Brooks; his Papa, Frank Brooks; grandmother, Grace P. Rivers; niece, Maddi; aunts, Little Grace and Tina Halisha; and cousin, Brian, Jr.

Harris; girlfriend, Angel Roberts; eight sisters, Kayla (Patrick), Destiny Brianna (Bruce, Sr.), Annalis, Mary-Alice, Jazmyne, Savanna, Brandy, and Halisha; eight brothers, Christopher (Sky), Brandon (Dulce), Sheldon, Jabbo, Jr., Charles, Jr., Bruce, Jr., Phillip, Jr., Patrick, and Gage (Maci); aunts and uncles, Rebecca, John, Jr., Brent, Sr., Bruce, Sr., Brian, Sr., TommyJoe (Nana), Alice, Jo Siah, Grace, Jasper, Will, Jayson, and Dewitt Carter; best friends, Shawna, Shanta, Cameron, Kaden, and Aiden; and other relatives and friends.
A wake will be held for Brighten from 6pm until 9pm Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at Freeman Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 11am Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Freeman Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Waite officiating. Burial will follow in Byrd Cemetery.
