Carlene Hopkins Scrimpshire

December 30, 1964 — September 15, 2023

Carlene Hopkins Scrimpshire left this earth peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on September 15, 2023. Carlene was born on December 30, 1964, and during her life she touched the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Carlene was a woman of immense warmth and kindness. Her selfless nature was evident in every aspect of her life. She always went out of her way to help others and had a heart that knew no bounds. Carlene's radiant personality attracted people from all walks of life, and she never met a stranger. Her intelligent mind, strength, and resilient spirit were sources of inspiration.

One of Carlene's greatest joys in life was spending time with her husband of 20 years, William David Scrimpshire. Together they enjoyed traveling around the country, fishing, and hosting friends and family at their home. Carlene also enjoyed spending time on the beach with her sister.

Carlene was a member of Calvert Baptist Church and her commitment to her faith was unwavering.

Carlene cherished her family and friends deeply. She is preceded in death by her fathers, Carl M. Hopkins and Johnny Wilson Johnston; mother-in-law, Doris Mims; and grandparents, Levi and Corneilia Hopkins, Odell and Marie Frazier, and Andrew and Estelle Johnston.

She is survived by her loving husband, William David Scrimpshire; son, Matthew Ryan Free; devoted mother, Ruth Hopkins Johnston; stepchildren, Sharon Scrimpshire, David Scrimpshire Jr. (Tara), and Mikka Jones (Cason); grandchildren, Blake, Alexus, Landon, Tonie, Grace, Jeremy, Austin, Toby, Lovie, Lucy, Robert, and Brantley; sister and best friend, Missy Hopkins Stewart (Les); stepbrothers, Brian Johnston, Kevin Johnston, Jason Johnston, and Kyle Johnston; stepsister, Courtney Clay (David); devoted nieces, Lauren Russell (Jacob) and Kelsey Atkinson (Drake); her precious baby dog, Roxy; as well as a host of extended family members and countless dear friends.

The celebration of Carlene's life will be held on September 19, 2023. The visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Simple House of Praise Church. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM at the same location with Bro. Clay Lewis and Bro. Dean Hopkins officiating. Interment will follow at Frazier Cemetery.

Carlene will forever live on in our hearts. Her loving nature and the impact she made on everyone she encountered will never be forgotten. Though we grieve her loss deeply, we find solace in knowing that she has found peace in the arms of Jesus. As we bid farewell to our beloved Carlene, let us remember her with fondness and strive to emulate her kindness and selflessness in our own lives. May she rest in eternal peace.
