Charles E. Edwards, age 73, a native of Greensboro, NC and a resident of Citronelle, AL, died Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center in Mobile, AL. Charlie was proud of his military career in the United States Marine Corps serving in the Korean Conflict and three deployments in Vietnam where he received four Good Conduct Medals, Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnamese Campaign Medal w/ 60 device, Vietnamese Service Medal w/4 Stars, Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm & Frame, and 5 Purple Hearts. Charlie was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, National Rifle Association, National Marine Corps League and the Citronelle United Methodist Church. After retirement from the Marines he drove and tractor trailer rig and then worked for the United States Postal Service until he retired. He is survived by his wife Peggy Patrick Edwards; Three Daughters, Debbie Moody of Charlotte, NC, Margie Hudson of Liberty, NC, and Tracy (David) Cooper of Foley, AL, Two Sons, Charles E. (Hazel) Edwards, Jr. of Pleasant Garden, NC and James Edwards of Liberty, NC, One Sister, Mrs. James R. "Margie " Thompson of Mebane, NC, Three Brothers - William Edwards of Greensboro, NC, Jerry (Ann) Edwards of Madison, NC and Kenneth (Robin) Edwards of Liberty, NC & Six grandchildren. Charlie enjoyed gardening, tomatoes were his passion and he loved his family especially his grandchildren. The family will receive friends from Tuesday, November 16, 2010 from 1PM until the 2PM funeral service at Citronelle United Methodist Church with Rev. M. Kathryn Knight officiating. Interment will be at Pine Crest Cemetery in Citronelle, AL with military honors rendered by the United States Marine Corps.
