Charles Woodrow Stringer, 72, a native of Vinegar Bend, Alabama and a resident of Mobile, Alabama passed away July 24, 2016, surrounded by his family at Providence Hospital in Mobile, Alabama. Before Charles began his career as a barber, he traveled all over the United States working for various printing companies. He worked for the Mobile Press Register & The Washington Post, to name a few. In 1964 he began his career as a barber, owning & operating shops in Mobile & Citronelle. Along with his career, Charles had many passions such as bowling, hunting & fishing. Above all, he was an avid Alabama football fan.
Charles founded the Mobile Association of the Deaf, Inc. in 1973. He continued as president for many years to follow. He was recognized as a lifetime honorary member. He also held memberships with the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf, Alabama Association of the Deaf, National Association of the Deaf and Mobile Deaf Bass Club.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 41 years, Emie Stringer; daughters, Sophia Nelson & Stephanie Pope (Jason); grandchildren, Delicia Lee, Austin Nelson, Allison Nelson, Tyler Jones & Cole Jones; great-grandchildren, Cooper & Carter; brother, Richard Stringer (Alene); nephew, Matthew Stringer (Ruby); niece, Michelle Suess (Greg); other relatives & friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Price & Ruth Stringer & his infant daughter.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 27, 2016 from 10am until the 11am funeral service at Freeman Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Dees officiating.
