Charlie Quitman Reed, affectionately known as “Chick” to many in the community of McIntosh, Alabama, passed peacefully from this life to Heaven on Friday, January 17, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
Charlie was born to parents Mamie (Perry) and Theodore Reed on November 28, 1945. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Mamie and Theodore Reed, and his loving wife of 45 years, Clara Chestang Reed. Charlie is survived by his spouse Elsie Cox; son Clint Reed (Gina); special daughter Ashley Chestang Byrd (Jimmy); brother Collie Reed (Sylvia Jean); grandsons Casey Reed (Ashley); Austin Reed (Loran); Granddaughter Haley Johnson (Terry); 8 great-grandchildren, Anna Clare, Charlee, Carlee and Aniya Reed; Emma, Allie and Riley Reed; Roman Reed; 4 step-great-grandchildren, 3 nephews, and a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews. Also, bonus grands Dillon and Jackson.
Charlie had a passion for driving big trucks and was known by co-workers and friends as “Squirrel Hunter”. He enjoyed fishing and watching drag races. In his later years he enjoyed watching wrestling in his spare time. Charlie leaves behind a great legacy of love, compassion and hard work. We can confidently say that “to know him, was to love him” and he was loved by so many.
A wake will be held Friday, January 24, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Magnolia Holiness Church in McIntosh, AL. Funeral service will be Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Magnolia Holiness Church with Bro. Ike Reed and Bro. Jr Long officiating. Burial to follow at Magnolia Holiness Cemetery.
