Bro. Clyde C. Byrd Sr., a beloved pastor and evangelist, went to spend eternity with Jesus Christ on July 8, 2023, at Providence Hospital. He was surrounded by his loving family during his final moments. Clyde was born on September 1, 1947, to James Franklin Byrd and Emma Byrd. Throughout his life, Clyde touched the lives of many through his dedicated service as a pastor at Hickory Grove for many years. Afterward, he continued his ministry as an evangelist. His profound spirituality and tireless devotion to spreading the message of love and compassion earned him respect throughout the community.
Clyde will be remembered not only for his unwavering faith but also for his great sense of humor. He had an incredible ability to bring joy to those around him and brighten any room with laughter. His magnetic personality endeared him to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him.
One of Clyde's greatest joys in life was spending time with his grandchildren. Their presence brought him immeasurable happiness, and he treasured every moment shared with them.
Outside of his ministry and family life, Clyde had several hobbies and interests that brought him joy. He was a devoted fan of Alabama football and the Yankees. Sports, especially softball, held a special place in his heart, serving as not only a source of entertainment but also a way to connect with others.
Clyde's proudest accomplishment outside of his ministry was being a well-known propane truck driver for 35 years. His dedication and commitment to this profession were exemplary.
A wake honoring Bro. Clyde's life will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at McKinley Pentecostal Church providing an opportunity for friends and loved ones to pay their respects.
The funeral service will take place on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, starting at 11:00 AM at McKinley Pentecostal Church with Rev. Jackie Snow and Bro. Sam Byrd officiating. This solemn occasion will be an opportunity for family, friends, and the community to gather together in remembrance of a remarkable man who touched so many lives. Burial will follow at Byrd Cemetery.
Clyde leaves behind a legacy of love and faith. He was proud of his children, Roxy Buckley (Jimmy), Clyde Byrd Jr. (Vivian), Kitty Chambliss, Daniel Byrd (Kimberly), and Samuel Byrd (Ann). His memory will also be cherished by his sixteen grandchildren and thirty-five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his immediate family, Clyde is survived by his sisters Natalie Bruner and Edith Orso, his brother George Byrd, as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Their lives have been forever enhanced by his presence, kindness, and unwavering commitment to spreading the word of God.
Along with his parents, Clyde is preceded in death by his brothers, Elsworth Byrd Sr., Fletcher Byrd, Leon Taylor, Samuel Byrd, and Richard Byrd; and sisters, Alice Weaver, and Sarah Douglas.
Clyde C. Byrd Sr. will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we bid farewell to this kind-hearted and vibrant soul, let us carry his spirit of love, laughter, and devotion in our hearts forever.
May he rest in eternal peace.
