Dan Rivers, a resident of McIntosh, Alabama, passed away Monday, September 17, 2018. He was 94 years old. Dan was born September 13, 1924. He was an amazing father, grandfather, and active deacon of Rivers Baptist Church. Dan was married to the late Carrie Rivers for 70 years before her passing. He came from humble beginnings, believed in hard work, and instilled strong moral values into his family and children to persevere in their lives. Throughout his life, Dan enjoyed hunting and being involved in the community. He helped found Exceptional Children’s, Inc. and was a board member for many years. He was also the oldest tribal member of Washington County in the MOWA Band of Choctaw Indians tribe. Dan is preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Rivers; parents, Luke and Texas Rivers; and children, Jesse Rivers and Danny Rivers. Those left to cherish his memory include his children, Morris Rivers, Maxwell Rivers Sr. (Nyoka), Rebecca A. Rivers, Marian V. Rivers, Connie B. Rivers, and Lillie W. Steiner (Gary); grandchildren, Maxwell Rivers Jr. (Brandi), Brad Reed, Elisha Reed (Waylon), Kristin Weaver (Randall), Jesse Rivers (Ashley), and Daniel Rivers; seventeen great grandchildren; eleven great-great grandchildren; and other relatives and friends. A wake will be held for Dan from 6pm to 9pm Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at Freeman Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 2pm Thursday, September 20, 2018, at Reed’s Chapel Baptist Church, with Bro. Nick Williams, Bro. Chad Orso, and Bro. Horace Weaver officiating.
