David Langston Pierce

November 29, 1959 — March 23, 2014

David Langston Pierce, 54, of Jacksonville, FL was born in Mobile, AL. He started school in Jackson, AL before later graduating from Plymouth High School in Plymouth, NC. He received his college degree from Appalachian State University in Boone, NC, an area he loved and visited often. He was a Speech Pathologist for 30 years in the Duval County School System. He touched the lives of many teachers and students with his passion and dedication for his work. David was a very talented musician, playing many instruments, and was a gifted artist as well. Fr. David was ordained as an Orthodox priest in 1997 and was Abbot of Mount Royal Monastery in Jacksonville, FL. He was well-respected for his tireless missionary activity. The family thanks his many friends in Jacksonville, including Ben Montgomery and Jim Polk, for their loving support and friendship. A beloved son and brother, David is survived by his parents, Bill and Jo Ann Pierce of Silverhill, AL, and sister, Sherrie Pierce of Atlanta, GA. He is preceded in death by grandparents Jack and Verna Elliott, Virginia and Vernon Pierce; Aunt Peggy Elliott; Uncle Cecil Pierce; First cousins Rene Mosely and Michelle McDonald. Funeral services will be held at Malbis Greek Orthodox Church, Spanish Fort, AL on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 1:00 pm. Visitation with the family to be held one hour prior at the church with burial to follow at Gulfcrest Cemetery in Gulfcrest, AL. Freeman Funeral Services, Citronelle, AL will handle arrangements.
