Dorothy M. Bivens, born on October 9, 1961, passed away peacefully at her home on January 27, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was a beacon of kindness, fun, and passion, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew her.
Dorothy was married to her devoted husband of 37 years, Norman David Bivens. Together, they created a life full of love and laughter, exemplified by their deep bond and commitment to one another. She proudly celebrated her role as a mother to her children: Stacy Dysart (Stuart), Candy Conway (Robert), and Deanna Law (Lashawn). Her grandchildren—Shanesa Whittaker, Jr. (Montae), Reuben Feagin, Robert Conway, Jr., Lashaundia James, Kelvin Barnes, Jr., and Shanyia Law—along with her great-grandchildren, Taegan Whittaker and Kyrianna James were the absolute loves of her life, filling her with joy and pride. She leaves behind a host of siblings—including John Henry Trotter, Jr. (Loretta), Levert Trotter, Joe L. Trotter, Sr. (Angela), Woodie Trotter, Sr., Edward Trotter, Sr. (Angela), Lillie English (Ricky), Delores Ranzy (Stanley Harris), and Norman Trotter (Loretta); sisters-in-law, Ann Grimes, Debbie Dixon (Don), Cynthia Bivens, Latasha Taylor (Lamont), Sonya Traylor (Sammy), Sheila Bivens, Chervonder McCarty (Cliff), and Josephine Clay; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends who will honor her memory forever.
Dorothy’s vibrant personality, characterized by her candidness and warmth, made her a cherished friend and confidant. She had an unwavering passion for being involved in her community and maintaining strong connections with her extended family and friends. Her commitment to the Class of 1980 was particularly notable, as she continually found ways to support and uplift her classmates. Her Sister-in-Christ, Darlene Miller (Terry), was a significant part of her life, illustrating the depth of friendship that defined Dorothy’s interactions with those she loved.
Dorothy was also a dedicated member of Restoration Church, which she began attending in 2016. It quickly became a central part of her life, reflecting her devotion to her faith and her community. She participated actively in church events, always bringing her light to those around her.
Dorothy M. Bivens is preceded by her parents, John Henry and Irene W. Trotter; her sister, Doris McDonald; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Evelyn and Floyd Bivens; and brother-in-law, Michael A. Bivens.
As we remember Dorothy, we celebrate her love for the color pink, her enjoyment of shopping and dressing up, and her enthusiastic participation in social gatherings. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone she touched.
Visitation will be held on February 8, 2025, from 9:00 AM until the 11:00 AM funeral service at Restoration Church with Bro. John Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Nebo Cemetery. We invite all those who knew her to join in honoring the remarkable life of Dorothy M. Bivens.
