Dorothy Angeline Odom

Dorothy (Dot) Angeline Odom, lovingly known as Mama Dot, passed peacefully in her home surrounded by her family at the age of 80 years old on September 2, 2023.

She was a native of Flomaton, Alabama. Mama Dot and her husband, Doyle Odom, made their home in Citronelle, Alabama for the past 50 years.

Mama Dot, a homemaker, was better known in the community for endless hours of volunteer work with the March of Dimes. She served as a secretary, campaign director, and a chapter chairman for the organization. She also served in various offices in the Citronelle Woman’s Club, Citronelle Civic League, and the Citronelle Garden Club.

She was a member of the Cross Point Baptist Church and a past member of Memorial Baptist Church both located in Citronelle, Alabama.

Mama Dot was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore and Angeline Baxter; two siblings, David Baxter and Esther Simmons; and her two daughters, Wanda Kay Richardson and Rhonda Faye Hillman.

Mama Dot is survived by her husband, Doyle Odom; and her two children, Teresa Lynn (Tony) Danley of Calera, Alabama and Gayle (Beverly) Hillman Jr of Fruitdale, Alabama. She is survived by two siblings, Douglas (Fran) Baxter and Thomas (Jill) Baxter. Mama Dot was blessed to be surrounded by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Her grandchildren include Eddie Denmark, Rhonda (Tony) Sheffield, Jonathon (Ashley) Hillman, Joshua (Victoria) Hillman, Blake (Missy) Rowell, Jacob (Kelsea) Danley, and Brooke (Matt) Williams. Her great-grandchildren included Madilyn and Isabella Sheffield, Desiree and Austin Denmark, Hunter, Heath and Hailey Hillman, Isaac Hillman, Anderson, Weslyn, and Cohen Rowell, Ava and Evelyn Danley, Kaleb Smith, and Grace, Hope, and Micah Williams.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until the 11:00 AM funeral service Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Cross Point Baptist Church with Brother Eddie Bates officiating. Interment will follow in Springbank Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Eddie Denmark, Tony Sheffield, Jonathon Hillman, Joshua Hillman, Blake Rowell, and Jacob Danley.

Honorary pallbearers are Austin Denmark, Hunter Hillman, and Heath Hillman.
