Dorsey James Powell

Dorsey James Powell, born in Sweetwater, Alabama on July 16, 1926, peacefully passed from this life surrounded by his family on October 3rd 2013. Mr. Powell retired in 1995 from Trailway Bus Company, after 50 years of service. He loved to hunt, fish in his pond, and cook shrimp for his family. He married Elsie L. Powell on June 15, 1947 and they enjoyed 66 years together. He was preceded in death by his mother, Florence Maude Powell, father, Dorsey Jelks Powell and brother, Wilbur Eugene Powell. Left to cherish his memory, his wife; children, James Michael (Becky) Powell and Ronald Eugene (Kathy) Powell; six grandchildren; Jay (Ann Marie) Powell, Shae (Jeffery) Ondracka, Kathleen (Bryant) Ellis, Morgan Powell, Tucker Powell, and Landon Powell; great grandchildren, Kylie Powell, Torri Powell, Michael Jay Powell, Sara Kate Ondracka, Olivia Ondracka, and Sam Ellis; two sisters, Eloise Turner and Addie Witherington; brother, Thomas C. Powell; other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 3-5 pm Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Freeman Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be 11 am Monday, October 7, 2013 from the chapel of the funeral home. Burial will follow in Deer Park Cemetery.
