July 24, 1919 — November 9, 2010

Edna Mae Smith West, a native of Baxterville, MS and resident of Citronelle, AL was born July 24, 1919 and passed away Tuesday, November 9, 2010. Mae and her son moved to Mobile County from Columbus, GA in the early 50's. She operated a restaurant in Citronelle for several years, then bought her own place in Mt. Vernon and called it Mae's Café. It was the "IN" place to go. The state bought her property on Highway 43 in 1959 when they made the highway into four lanes. She lived in Lawton, OK for a short time with her son and his family then moved back to Citronelle. She met and married Clarence West in 1962. They lived at Pirate's Cove, in Elberta, AL for many years before moving to Okeechobee, FL in the late 70's where they lived until 1992. She and Clarence were avid fishermen and enjoyed fishing in Lake Okeechobee. Upon her husband Clarence's death in 1992, Mae moved back to Citronelle where her family lived. She was happy to be back in the midst of her family and old friends. Mrs. West was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence West; her parents, Robert and Lillie Smith; her sister, Rachel Smith Landers and her brothers, J.W. Smith, Underwood Smith, Orris Smith and Coy Smith. She is survived by her son, Woodrow Wallace; brothers, Fletcher (Audrey) Smith, Walter "Buddy" Smith and Ira (Bobbye) Smith; granddaughters, Pamela Wallace and Marla (David) Peaslee; great grandchildren, Emilie and Seth; and a host of nieces and nephews; and her very special friends whom she especially wanted mentioned - Audrey Smith, Ruth Ash and Margaret Ann McCarty. She also wanted to say thank you to Dr. Kleinschrodt and his nurse Sylvia for the care they gave her for so many years. A wake will be Thursday, November 11, 2010 from 6 PM - 9 PM with the Funeral Service on Friday, November 12, 2010 at 11 AM in the Chapel of Freeman Funeral Home with Rev. Clay Lewis, Rev.
