Emery Joseph Mears – Feb. 21, 1943 – Jan. 31, 2018. Emery was born and raised in Cedar Grove, Virginia. It was there, as a young man, that he got his first taste of trucking, making it a lifelong career. He was affectionately known, over the road, as “The Rooster”. Emery eventually settled down in Citronelle, Alabama, later retiring from Suttles Truck Leasing, Inc. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and entertaining everyone with his “road tales” and many jokes. He loved his dogs, Elvis and Presley, with Little Elvis never being far from his side. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Ellen Rowell Mears of Citronelle, Alabama; his son, Emery Joseph Mears Jr and daughter, Sheryl Mears Pruitt of Virginia; daughter, Renee Mears Denmark; step-sons, Royce and Jonathan Robinson of Citronelle; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; siblings, devoted brother, Jack Mears of Citronelle, Essie Bryant of Huntsville Alabama, Brent and Billy Mears of Capeville, Virginia and Goodie Corkey of Bud Lake, New Jersey; and a host of friends and loved ones. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Teresa Ellison and Carrie Zehner of Springhill Hospice for their loving care of Emery. The family will receive friends from 11am until the 12pm funeral service on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at New Home Baptist Church with Rev. Jeff Bryan officiating. Burial will follow in New Home Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Hunter Denmark, Michael Harvey, Timothy Robinson, Jonathon Robinson, David Rowell and Howard Hudson, Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Potter, Howard Hudson, Sr., Eddie Everette and Jack Mears.
