Ernestine DuCloux Harris, 93, a native of Sweetwater, Alabama and longtime resident of Mount Vernon, Alabama passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, May 30, 2020. She retired as a corporate secretary from the Coca Cola Bottling Company. She was a devoted member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church and the first recipient of the Christ the King Medal. Mrs. Harris enjoyed playing the organ at church and felt joy in being a part of her parish and the love and friendship she enjoyed with each of the members. She was grateful for the spiritual comfort that she felt and received with Archbishop Lipscomb, Father Theodore Hay and Father John Coghlan. She found joy in the fulfillment and accomplishments of her efforts to help others. She also found happiness in being with all her family and friends during her lifetime. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Mrs. Harris is now enjoying the ultimate happiness with God, His Son, the Blessed Mother, His Angels and Saints, and members of her family.
She was preceded in death by her first husband of 48 years, James R. DuCloux, Jr.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Thomas R. Harris, Jr.; daughter, Kathryn DuCloux Condon; step-daughters, Donna Merchant and Jaqueline Harris; step-son, Thomas R. Harris, III; brother, Frank Robison; granddaughters, Kathryn Leigh Jack (Paul) and Valerie DuCloux Watkins (Ben); three great grandchildren, Marianne, Stewart and Duke; special cousins, Ron Langley and George Albert Langley; other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be held at 5:45 pm before the wake on Monday, June 1, 2020 from 6-8pm at St. Cecilia Catholic Church. The Mass of Resurrection will be held 11am Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Rev. John Coghlan, Celebrant.
Burial will be in DuCloux Family Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers will be Hamp Johnston, Charles Seabury, Jackie Benton, Robert Cannon and Douglas McIntyre. Active pallbearers will be James P. Jones, Joseph Earl Barnett, George Albert Langley, Ronald Jay Langley, Bobby Ramey, William Knight and Samuel Marks.
