Frances Merchant Lewis

December 4, 1937 — February 11, 2025

Frances Merchant Lewis, affectionately known as "Memom", age 87, passed away on February 11, 2025, at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center. Born on December 4, 1937, Frances lived a life marked by devotion, love, and a wealth of fond memories that she created with her family and friends.

As a woman who loved the Lord, Frances dedicated her life to instilling the same values in her loved ones. She possessed a feisty spirit, a big heart, and an opinionated nature, yet her kindness, thoughtfulness, and generosity were hallmarks of her personality. Frances was an ardent fan of J. Vernon McGee, reflecting her deep faith and commitment to her beliefs.

Frances had a passion for cooking that transcended mere culinary skill; she cherished creating meals for every occasion, bringing joy and comfort to her family and friends. Her love for gardening flourished in her many crops, from vegetables to beautiful flowers, and she took pride in picking and canning them. An enthusiast of table-scaping, she was fond of using her red truck as a focal point. Frances also enjoyed the creative outlet of sewing and quilting, producing beautiful pieces that were treasured by those fortunate enough to receive them.

Her proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who meant the world to her. She is survived by her children, Patsy Lewis (Cmo), Tonja Lewis Novoa (Javier), and Wesley Lewis; her grandchildren, Joshua Rosandich (Kyia), Dylan Ellerman (Marte), Javier Novoa II, Marcus Novoa (Christine), Ilena, Hunter, Daniraee Lewis, and Matthew Brown; and her great-grandchildren, Nicolas, Gage, Lanah, Ethan, Marc, and Jax. Frances is also survived by her sister, Eudelle Turner, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and friends who will remember her fondly.

Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Wendal Lewis; her son, Danny Ray Lewis; her grandson, Jimmy Watson; her parents, Newton and Maude Merchant, and Bill Cooley; her siblings, Charles Merchant, Calliree Carney, and Debi Fulkerson; and her daughters-in-law, Sandy Lewis and Sylvia Lewis.
