Francis Gerald “Jerry” Koger, Jr. was born April 7, 1958 in Mobile, Alabama. He was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on October 29, 2024.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nicole Durham; his parents, Jerry Koger Sr. and Bobbie Jean Koger; and his niece, Alyssa Melendez.
He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Candy Koger; his daughters, Hannah and Amber Koger; his grandchildren, Lily and Lainey Trehern, and Layla White; sister, Daphne Massey; nephew, Brandon and Anthony Melendez; Aunt, Rosia Henderson; Cousins, Ramona Henderson, Lisa Melendez, and Randy (Pam) Smith; Uncle, Ralph Koger (Sarah) and Aunt Anne; Bonus family, Lia Winfield and Teresa Mixon (Robin); Best friend, William (Bill) Driskell, as well as many other nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends.
Jerry graduated from Davidson High School. He went on to graduate from Southwest State Technical College with a degree in drafting and design, followed by graduating from the University of South Alabama with a bachelor's degree in business accounting. After pursuing a career in engineering design, he went on to be a dedicated and valued employee at SSAB for over twenty years.
Jerry was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching football and golf, as well as playing golf. He was a passionate Alabama and New Orleans Saints fan. His favorite place to watch the Crimson Tide was in his Alabama-themed man cave at home and surrounded by family.
Jerry was a devoted husband, father, Papa, brother, and friend.
He happily served and provided for his family and all of those around him. He will be remembered for his love for his family, his willingness to care for others, as well as his diligence, ambition, and work ethic. His family takes comfort in knowing they will all be reunited one day again in Heaven.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 12:00 PM for a visitation until the 1:00 PM funeral service at Freeman Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne Sheppard and Bro. George Weaver officiating. Burial will follow at Byrd Cemetery. The family requests guests to wear Alabama attire in Jerry’s honor.
Pallbearers include: Robin Mixon, Cameron Farley, Patrick Stacy, Kentaye Franks, Larry Weaver, and Travis Byrd.
