Fred N. ''Bam Bam'' Smith, also known as Pops, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at the age of 74. Fred was born on January 28, 1948, to Walter ''Buddy'' and Doris ''Dee'' Smith in Citronelle, Alabama, where he was raised and lived throughout his whole life.
Fred was a long-time employee of Alabama Power at Barry Steam Plant from where he retired, but what he was most passionate about was being an avid outdoorsman. He was a member of Plemmons Hunting Club, and loved to spend most of his free time hunting, fishing, camping, or just being ''outside'' with his three sons, Robbie, Jim, and Tim. Fred instilled his love for the outdoors in his sons and made many memories that they will always treasure. He was a loving, caring, funny, ''goofy'' daddy and grandfather.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Walter ''Buddy'' Smith and Doris ''Dee'' Smith; brother, Bruce Smith; and two sisters, Brenda West and Kimberly Silcox.
Those left to cherish his memory include his three sons, Robbie Smith (Mandy), Jim Smith (Jill), and Tim Smith (Jennifer); mother of his sons, Vickie (Byrd) Davidson; six grandchildren, Brett Smith, Alexis Smith, Laurel Smith, Joshua Smith, Alex Smith, and Rinnah Smith; four sisters, Elsie Yates (Jim), Faye Howard, Paula Williams, and Kay Hollman (Aubrey); and other relatives and friends. Pop was loved and will be missed greatly. Bam Bam is also survived by a multitude of friends whose lives he touched in a wonderful way.
The family will receive friends from 5pm until the 8pm funeral service Monday, May 16, 2022, at Freeman Funeral Home. Donations may be made in Fred's memory to South Alabama Chapter of Hope Outdoors, 1996 Pittman Platt Road, Fruitdale, Alabama 36539. Online condolences may be given at www.freemancitronelle.com.
