Gaines Marion Rivers, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on August 18, 2023, at his residence. He was surrounded by his loving family in his final moments. Murry was born on March 21, 1944, and lived a fulfilling life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Murry had a passion for storytelling and would often recount his life adventures to captivated audiences. His ability to weave tales of his experiences endeared him to all who knew him. He had a knack for engaging others with his captivating narratives.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation event, which will take place on August 23, 2023, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Freeman Funeral Home. The following day, a funeral service will be held at the same location starting at 11:00 AM with interment to follow in Lambert Grove Cemetery.

Always happy, loving, and caring, Murry had an infectious personality that brightened any room he entered. His genuine kindness and compassion touched the lives of everyone he encountered. He had an unwavering faith in God and was an active member of his church community.

In his free time, Murry enjoyed playing the guitar and singing. Music was a source of joy and solace for him throughout his life. He loved Alabama football. Additionally, he found great enjoyment in watching wrestling matches and spending time outdoors hunting. However, above all else, Murry treasured moments spent with his family and participating in activities that brought them closer together.

One of Murry's proudest accomplishments was giving his life to the Lord. His faith was unshakeable and served as a guiding light in both good times and challenging moments. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion to God that will continue to inspire future generations.

Murry was preceded in death by his wife, Mitchell Louise Rivers; daughter, Shirley Turner; sons, Troy Rivers and Perry Rivers; granddaughter, Keitra Young; mother and father, Glo and Timmy Rivers; and siblings, Rachel Turner (Charlie), Nita Johnston (Peter), and Ralph Rivers.

Murry's legacy extends to his surviving family members and friends who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him. He is survived by his daughters Myra Delores Reid and Alma Gloria Wilkerson; grandchildren, Melinda Goodman (David), Candiace Grissim (Chris), Douglas Reid, Chad Young, Eric Sawyer, Troy Rivers (Noel), Sonny Rivers (Amanda), Carlie Rivers, and Mitchell Nelson; 28 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

As we bid farewell to Gaines Marion Rivers, let us remember him for the joy he brought into our lives and the kindness he bestowed upon others. His legacy of love will continue to shine brightly in our hearts forever. May his soul find eternal peace in the embrace of God's loving arms.
