George Marion Yonge, Jr.

July 2, 1925 — November 2, 2017

George Marion Yonge, Jr., 92, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2017, at Crowne Healthcare of Citronelle. Marion was born in Mobile, Alabama, on July 2, 1925, and lived there until he and his family moved to Citronelle when he was six. During World War Two he served in the Merchants Marines. After returning from war, he returned to school in Scooba, Mississippi, where he played football and finished high school. As a small child, he became a member of the Citronelle Methodist Church and remained an active member until his health would no longer allow him to do so. His civic activities included the Jaycees, Band parents, Quarterback Club, Recreation Board, and Scout Master. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Mary Will Yonge. He is survived by his son, Larry Yonge, (Jaton); daughters, Phyllis Hartselle, (David) and Barbara Daniels, (Danny); grandchildren, D’Anne Dunn, Brad Daniels, Chris Fowler, Jason Daniels, Kati Nelson, Ali Hartselle-Reid, Ross Yonge and Josey Yonge; 17 great grandchildren. Calob, Cade, Jackson, Elizabeth, Gabriel, Chaz, Gray, Sarah Grace, Kennedy Jane, Michael, Slade, Max, Kallie, J. W., Sanders, Lawson, and Mary Wit; brother, Preston Yonge other relatives and friends. A wake will be held 4pm – 6pm, Saturday, November 4, 2017, at Citronelle United Methodist Church fellowship hall. The Visitation on Sunday, November 5, 2017, from 1-2 with Funeral Service at 2 pm. at Citronelle United Methodist Church with Rev. Anthony Tutor and Rev. Lauren Helveston officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Citronelle United Methodist Church in memory of George Marion Yonge, Jr. Online register available at www.freemancitronelle.com.
