Gerald Glenn Deese

Gerald Glenn Deese, a resident of Citronelle, Al, passed away Wednesday April 19, 2023 at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was 68 years old. Gerald has been a resident of Citronelle his whole life. He was a loving son, husband, father, and grandfather. Gerald was owner operator of High Roller family skate center and Deese Korner Variety convenience store. He had a love for his community. You could find Gerald in the early mornings during the week at Deese’s sitting behind the counter, drinking his coffee, and waiting to have a conversation with anyone. On the weekends you would find him at the skating rink, cranking the music up and letting the kids in to skate all night. Gerald was a softball coach in Citronelle and coached many young girls for many years. He loved getting on the field and teaching kids the sport to become All-stars and State Champions. Gerald was also a long time member of the Mystic Stripers Society. He was a teacher of many things. If you had a problem or needed advice he was the man to go to. He had an answer for everything and loved to help others. Gerald also had a huge love for the land. If he wasn't working at the store, the skating rink, or on the softball field, he would be in the woods at his farm. He loved nature and everything in it from hunting deer, turkey, quails, or squirrels, to planting trees, or taking care of his cows and horses. Being outside was his serenity. Geralds biggest love was his wife, kids, and grandkids. He put all his teachings and time into his family. He never let them go without and he was always there for them. Gerald will be greatly missed by his family and community. He was truly a great man.

Gerald was preceded in death by his father and mother William E. Deese and Mary A. Webb, sister Maryann Lott, and brother Sidney(Sid) Deese. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Martha Deese, Children; Amber Deese (Tammy), Stuart Deese, Jessica Best (Joseph), Tiffany Smith (Brandon), Emily Summersell (Shane); Grandchildren; Chloe, Claire, Carston, Janie, Christian, Marshall, Kinzey, Ronnie, Ryann, Kenneth, Madison, Raelynn, Landyn, and other relatives and friends.

A wake will be held for Gerald from6pm until 9pm Sunday, April23, 2023, at Freeman Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held at 11am Monday, April 24, 2023, at Freeman Funeral Home with Rev. Marcus Hobbs officiating.  Burial will follow at Weldy Deese Cemetery in Deer Park.
