Gladys Virginia Sullivan, a resident of Mount Vernon, Alabama, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022. She was 84 years old. Gladys was born March 30, 1938. She retired from being a foster grandparent for the Mount Vernon Headstart after 18 years of service in the program. Gladys was a faithful member of Never Ending Faith Baptist Church. Her priority was her family and she always made sure they were taken care of and instilled with strong Christian values. Gladys was a pillar to the community and her presence will be greatly missed throughout.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Earnest Sullivan; parents, William and Ellner Byrd; granddaughter, Shelly Rivers; and brother, Earl Byrd.
Those left to cherish her beautiful memory include her sons, Robert Sullivan (Hope), Jimmy Sullivan (Elizabeth), Darrell Sullivan (Tracy), Chanley Sullivan (Jessica), and Craige Sullivan (Sonora); daughter, Carla Williams (Robert); grandchildren, Steve Weaver (Wanda), Erica Thompson (Don), Jimmie Sullivan (Kendra), Dana Byrd (Joe), Joe Sullivan (Nikki), Darrell Dewayne Sullivan, Selena Williams, Roger Sullivan, Tamra Sullivan, and Bailey Davidson; seventeen great-grandchildren; sisters, Eunice Lambert and Patsy Cole (Don); special friend, Martha Sullivan; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 10am until the 11am funeral service Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Never Ending Faith Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Byrd, Rev. Dean Hopkins, and Rev. Greg Kirkwood officiating. Burial will follow in Byrd Cemetery. Pallbearers include Jimmie Lee Sullivan, Joe Sullivan, Darrel Sullivan, Wayne Lambert, Jr., Patrick Wilkerson, and Roger Sullivan. Honorary pallbearers include Spud Wilkerson and David Lambert.
