Gloria Carpenter Lynd went home to the Lord on November 27, 2015, at the moment of a glorious sunrise. She was the beautiful bride of 62 years to Mr. Edward E. Lynd, both of Citronelle, AL, and part of the family at First Baptist Church of Citronelle.
Gloria was born in Hurley, MS, on June 18, 1935; the daughter of William Oren Carpenter and Georgia Lee Lyons. While growing up, she thoroughly enjoyed adventures with her brothers, William Oren, Jr. and John Erwin. Her father was a deacon at East Moss Point Baptist Church for 63 years. Gloria continued the loving example of her parents with her own five daughters and their families: Teresa Lynd, who went to Heaven at age three; Sabrina Lynd Brannen, sons Russell, twins Taylor and Travis with Alicia Salazar, and great-grandson Aaron; Letitia Lynd Ward with David Pardo, her son Joshua with wife Clesha, and great grand-children Georgia, Garrett, Colby, and Brooks; Diana Lynd McGowen with husband Robert, children Robert, Jr. with wife Marissa, and great-grandchildren Adeline and Robert William, III, Rachel with husband Aaron, and twins Jeffrey and Michael; and Annisa Lynd Lamberton with husband Tony, daughter Emma, and twins Abigale and Forrest. Mrs. Lynd was loved by many more friends and family members from throughout her life.
On her birth certificate, her name was mistakenly given as Glorie; however, her life, undoubtedly, gave glory to the Lord. Gloria attended Moss Point High School and was the 1953 Mardi Gras queen, wearing an elegant, sequined, white satin ball gown made by her mother and aunts. She was a cheerleader and played the trumpet. Beginning a lifetime of love, she married Ed in 1953. Early on, she worked briefly at M&E Railroad, Lockport Felt, Ingalls Shipyard, and Merchant Marine Bank; however, she always viewed her profession as the caretaker of her home. During her life, she made a wonderful home for her family in eight different states from Texas to Maine. As Ed often acknowledges, he was successful because Gloria willingly sacrificed for him and their family. Later, she was president of Lyndco Incorporated, an engineering consulting firm that she managed for Ed, a mechanical engineer, after his retirement. Throughout her life, even as her children became adults, her greatest accomplishments and strongest passions were marriage and motherhood. Her dedication to her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren left a legacy of loving fiercely and serving joyfully.
When asked about their life together, her husband Ed responded, “I’m most proud that she loved me.”
The most wonderful news of Gloria’s life is that she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior, and those, like Ed and their children, who also believe, will be with her again one day. Gloria has now joined many loved ones who have gone before her, and she will be missed by those left to long for a coming reunion.
