Gracie L Odom, a beloved member of the community, has passed away on November 28, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Born on February 28, 1935, Gracie led a remarkable life filled with love, compassion, and determination. She was a member of Deer Park United Methodist Church. Throughout her journey, she touched the lives of those around her and left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.
Gracie began her career as a secretary right after high school at Olin Mathieson. Her exceptional skills and dedication caught the attention of many, leading her to work at Brookley Field Air Force Base for many years. Even after Brookley closed its doors, Gracie's unwavering work ethic led her to Brown & Root where she continued to make a positive impact.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Gracie was best known for her caring nature and strong sense of family. She embodied selflessness in every aspect of her life and was always there for those in need. Following the passing of her parents, Gracie and her late husband became caregivers to four of her younger siblings. This act of love and devotion speaks volumes about the remarkable person she was.
Gracie's proudest accomplishments centered around her daughter Marsha Lu Odom and grandson Jeremy Odom Turner. They were the pride and joy of her life, bringing immense happiness to each passing day. Jeremy held a special place in Gracie's heart, and his presence brought an abundance of joy that radiated throughout their lives.
Outside of her professional and familial achievements, Gracie had a wide range of hobbies and interests that brought joy to her daily routine. She had a deep love for reading, sewing, crocheting, gardening, baking, and candy making. These activities provided solace for Gracie as she poured love into every endeavor.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Tyler Odom "Jack"; parents, Warren and Mary Elizabeth Webb; siblings, Lillie Bell Walling, Lottie Leona Neese "Loney", Pearlie Ruth Gammage, Norma Faye Turner "Tiny", Doris Betty Turner, and Ralph Wayne Webb.
Gracie's memory will forever be cherished by those she is survived by including her loving daughter, Marsha Lu Odom; her adored grandson, Jeremy Odom Turner; and siblings, Frances Juanita Webb, Mary Elizabeth Young "Sadie," Edna Joyce Holland, and Warren Webb Jr. (Sharon), many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
To honor and celebrate Gracie L Odom's life, a wake will be held on December 3, 2023 from 6 PM to 8 PM at Freeman Funeral Home. A graveside service will take place the following day on December 4, 2023 at Deer Park Cemetery with Rev. Charles Salterwhite officiating and prayer by Jackie Patton. The service will begin at 11 AM with heartfelt tributes shared amongst loved ones.
Gracie L Odom's life was a beautiful testament to love, kindness, and resilience. She will forever be remembered for her unwavering dedication to family and friends. Her caring nature and selflessness serve as an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing her. As we bid our farewell to Gracie, let us carry her memory in our hearts with gratitude for the love she brought into our lives.
May her soul find eternal peace and may we find solace in knowing that we were touched by such a remarkable soul.
