Mr. Grady Melvin Phillips, Sr., 78, a native of Thomasville, AL and resident of Mt. Vernon, AL, died Thursday, March 18, 2010 at his residence. He was born Monday, February 8, 1932 to the late Mr. Grover E. Phillips and the late Mrs. Effie Rush Phillips. Mr. Melvin was a dedicated member of Faith Temple Church of God for many years and has served as former Deacon, Trustee, Sunday School Superintendent and other positions. He was a retired mental health police officer of Searcy Hospital in Mt. Vernon, AL. He is preceded in death by his Wife, Ruby Phillips. Mr. Melvin is survived by 2 Sons, Mel Phillips and wife Ginger of Ft. Valley, GA, Rev. David W. Phillips and wife Donna of Mt. Vernon, AL; Daughter, Brenda Collier and husband Greg of Warner Robins, GA; 2 Brothers, James Phillips of Buena Vista, VA and Noah Phillips of Fairfield, VA; Sister, Mattie Lee Pugh of Bashi, AL; 9 Grandchildren and 3 Great-Grandchildren; Special Friend, Edith Hartley of Summerdale, AL. The visitation will be held 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM Saturday, March 20, 2010 at Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle, AL. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, March 21, 2010 from the Chapel of Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle, AL with Rev. Steve Watts and Rev. Charles M. Rush officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Vernon Community Cemetery with Rev. Dallas Lakes and Rev. Thomas Long officiating.
