Helen Lucille ''Lucy'' Byrd (nee Turner) passed away with her family by her side on January 29, 2022. She and her husband, L.T. Byrd, were devoted to each other for 56 years and 23 days. She was also devoted to her children, Beverly Byrd, Debra Kearley and Diane Thompson. She loved and was very proud of her eight grandchildren (Kayla, Danielle, Jonathon, Breanna, Andrew, Eric, Kayvan and Kamran) and her three great grandchildren (Benjamin, Brooklyn and Brad).
Lucy's smile was made of sunshine. She beamed, bright and beautiful, and everyone who saw her smile, smiled back. She kept that smile all of her 75 years, despite constant health challenges over all of those years. ''I'm not gonna give up,'' was her mantra, and her strength and bravery are inspirational.
Aside from her family, black walnut ice cream, morning and afternoon coffee on the porch and Johnny Cash were her passions. Trilling song bird's sounds were thrilling, and sprawling verdant pastures were like a picture in a book to her. Pink lipstick was a pick me up, and her family's voices gave her the get up and go.
As her second man Johnny said it best, ''We'll meet again some sunny day. Don't know where. Don't know when. But I know we'll meet again some sunny day.''
A graveside service will be held for Lucy at 2pm Tuesday, February 01, 2022, at Fellowship Cemetery with Rev. Billy Ray Robinson officiating. Online condolences may be given at www.freemancitronelle.com. Freeman Funeral Home - Citronelle, Alabama
