Hoyle Ray Snypes of Daphne, Alabama passed away peacefully on July 9, 2013 in Fairhope, Alabama with his family by his side. He was born on March 5, 1927 in Kannapolis, North Carolina. After graduating from Citronelle High School, he attended the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York followed by service in World War II. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1950 to 1952. Mr. Snypes worked for South Central Bell from 1952 until his retirement in 1986. He was active throughout his career and retirement with the AT&T Pioneers. He participated in many senior organizations in both Mobile and Baldwin County. Much of his time was spent with family and friends at his home on Dauphin Island. He is survived by his children, Cheryl Snypes Sansom of Fairhope, Alabama and son, Dr. Stephen Ray Snypes and his wife, Vickie Whitney Snypes of Mobile, Alabama; grandchildren Jon Connor Sansom, Stephen Ray Snypes, Jr., Joseph Cameron Snypes and Sutton Vaughn Snypes; his sisters, Gladys Walker of Citronelle, Alabama, Shirley Snypes of Fairhope, Alabama, and Colleen Hardin of Mobile, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert E. and Annie Belle Snypes, his brothers Jessie O., James A. and Harold “Sonny” Snypes, and his sisters, Mildred Motz and Dr. Doris Snypes. Visitation will be held at Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle, Alabama from 10 am til 11 am on Friday, July 12 with services following in the chapel.
