Hulen Augustus Cooper, a resident of Mount Vernon, Alabama, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2016. He was 71 years old. Hulen was born November 16, 1944 to Robert and Alice Cooper. After high school, Hulen served in the United States Marine Corps. He also worked in construction as a heavy machine operator. Throughout his life, Hulen served on the Mount Vernon Fire and Rescue Squad, was a member of the Joe Southall Lodge #905 F&AM, and was a deacon at Lockler Memorial Baptist Church. He loved to help people in community. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and dancing. Hulen was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Hulen is preceded in death by his parents. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 51 years, Betty Ann Cooper; children, Andy Cooper (Cindy), Gwen Jones (Jimmy); grandchildren, David Cooper, Paige Cooper, Whitley Jones Hopkins (Danny); great grandchildren, Breanna, Camden, Gunner; brothers, Toney Cooper, Billy Joe Cooper; sisters, Lois Joiner, Jean Bowden, and Sylvia Winkle; and other relatives and friends. A wake will be held from 6pm until 9pm Sunday, November 13, 2016, at Lockler Memorial Baptist Church. The funeral service will be 11am Monday, November 14, 2016, at Lockler Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Perkins officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Community Cemetery.
