Mr. Ira Lavon Smith, 80, a native of Baxterville, MS and a resident of Citronelle, AL died Monday, July 18, 2011 in Citronelle. Coach Smith taught history and coached football at Shuqualak High School, Caledonia High School, Alba High School, Satsuma High School and retired from Citronelle High School. He was a member of First Baptist Church - Citronelle, Citronelle Senior Men's Golf Association and Southern Mississippi Alumni Association. Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lillie Smith, sisters: Rachel Landers, Edna Mae West: brothers, J. W. Smith, Underwood Smith, Orris Smith, Coy Smith, Fletcher Smith, grandson: Andin Paul Rowell. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Bobbye Hood Smith, children: Kenneth (Denise) Smith, Joy (Pete) Newsome and Ira (Fran) Smith, Jr., brother: Walter "Buddy" Smith, grandchildren Jay (Sonia) Rowell, Kurt (Diana) Smith, Kendell (Mark) Lewis, Shelly (Dave) Mathern, Erin Smith, Brent Smith, Karlee Smith, great grandchildren: Ethan, Tristan, Kaden, Ameilia, Toby, Madden. A wake will be Tuesday, July 19, 2011 from 6-8pm at Freeman Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 11am Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at Freeman Funeral Home with burial in Pine Crest Cemetery in Citronelle with Rev. Marc Hobbs and Dr. Elbert Charpie officiating.
