James Henry Byrd, a man of boundless enthusiasm and a zest for life, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2024. He has left behind a legacy filled with laughter and love. Born on March 19, 1960, James lived a life filled with joy, humor, and an unwavering dedication to his family and friends.
A true outdoorsman, James found solace and happiness on his 12 acres of land, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and immersed himself in the beauty of nature. His passion for music and dancing was infectious, always bringing a smile to those around him. He was also known for his hard working nature and skilled hands at fixing things. James had a knack for making the ordinary extraordinary.
Among his proudest accomplishments were his family, particularly his grandchildren whom he adored spoiling and ensuring they had everything they desired. James valued family above all else.
His pride and joy were his children, James Henry Byrd Jr. (Latrisha), Brandy Byrd-Johnston (Brad), and Joshua Henry Byrd; grandchildren, Sierra, Kaylin (Jacob), Paytlin, Tristan, Shelia, Nick, David, Krystalin, Mallory, Gracie, Bradlon, Bryant, Nolan, and Oliver; and great-grandson, Colton.
James also leaves behind his siblings, Vince Byrd (Sable), John Byrd (Bonnie), Albert Byrd (Kerri), Joe Byrd (Josie), Marvin Byrd; Ethel Byrd (Collie); Lurenda Byrd; and Bettelynne Bedgood (Kenneth); numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives; and countless friends.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Jamie Reed Byrd; parents, Rudolph and Maxine Byrd; brother, Grover Byrd; nephews, Albert Byrd II and Grover "Nute" Byrd; and niece, Lacey Weaver.
A wake will be held on Friday, June 14, 2024 from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM at Freeman Funeral Home with the Rosary beginning at 5:30 PM. The Mass of the Resurrection will be on at St. Theresa's Catholic Church Saturday, June 15, 2024 at 11:00 AM with Father Victor Ingalls officiating. Burial will follow at Byrd Cemetery.
