James Oscar Owens

James Oscar Owens, a resident of Vinegar Bend, Alabama, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2023, at his home.  He was 82 years old.  James loved being outside and enjoyed doing yard work.  He also loved to play drums.  Most of all, James loved to spend time with his family.  He was a hard-working father and husband and provided for his family.  He worked in the Oil Field for many years and then became an owner/operator in the trucking industry.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Thelma Owens; and his grandparents, Oscar and Mamie Williams.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Mildred Preston Owens; children, James P. Owens (Debbie) and Teresa Owens Williams; three grandchildren, Jana Owens Mattern (Matt), Nicholas Andrew Bradley, and Tiffany Mason (Ben); four great grandchildren, Ryker Mattern, Sutton Mason, Briggs Mason, and Andi Kate Mason; brother, Edward Owens; other relatives; and friends.

A wake will be held from 6pm until 9pm Monday, February 20, 2023, at Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle.  The funeral service will be held at 11am Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at Freeman Funeral Home in Citronelle with Rev. Tommy Ezell officiating.  Burial will follow in Grimes Cemetery in Vinegar Bend.  Pallbearers include Ed Owens, Dawson Owens, Aaron Dueitt, Kevin Preston, Tim Hennis, and Bobby Manning.
