John Emerson Kerr, Jr., son of John Emerson Kerr, Sr. and Margaret Jeanette Kerr, née Babbitt, born June 13, 1945, in Pontiac, Michigan, passed away January 5, 2024, in Mobile, Alabama, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Kerr, a lifelong resident of Citronelle, Alabama, had the distinction of being in the first graduating class of the University of South Alabama in 1967. After serving as a captain in the United States Air Force, he worked with the United States Postal Service, retiring after 40 years.
He served the Citronelle community as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Industrial Development Board, and the Historical Society. During his many years as a member of Life Church of Mobile he taught Sunday school, volunteered in crisis support with Christ in Action, supported missions, which included a trip to Russia, and served as an elder for many years, retiring as Elder Emeritus.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dorothy Vann Kerr; and his four children, John Emerson Kerr III (Amy), Heather Terry (Eddie), Elizabeth DeWitt (Blake), and Robert Kerr; and eleven grandchildren, Seth Terry (Heather), Julianne Dickinson (Cory), Katherine Terry, Ashleigh Milne (James), Gabbie Kerr, Ethan Kerr, Riley DeWitt, Sophie Kerr, John Emerson Kerr IV, Luke DeWitt, and Claire DeWitt.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM memorial service Saturday, June 15, 2024 at The First Presbyterian Church.
