John Tyler “Jack” Odom, 88, a native and lifelong resident of Deer Park, Alabama passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at his home. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army with Company B 349TH Infantry in Italy serving under General George S. Patton. He began working with his father in the timber business as a teenager, and he continued working in the timber business when he came home from the service. Mr. Odom attended the Deer Park United Methodist Church. He was an assistant scout master and was in the Order of the Arrow. He loved hunting, fishing, camping, taking the dogs to the pond and watching and photographing all kinds wildlife. He along with his daughter went on an Honor Flight of South Alabama in 2011 and visited the World War II Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the Marines Corps Memorial (Iwo Jima) and Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 60 years, Gracie L. Odom; daughter, Marsha Lu Odom; grandson, Jeremy Odom Turner; sister, Edna Linzey; other relatives and friends. A wake will be held Thursday, March 26, 2015 from 6pm to 8pm at Freeman Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held 2pm, Friday, March 27, 2015 at Deer Park United Methodist Church with Rev. Jesse Shackelford, Jr. and Rev. Gary Hickman officiating. Burial will follow at Deer Park Cemetery in Deer Park, Alabama. Online condolences may be given at www.freemancitronelle.com.
