Johnny Wilson Johnston, 75, a native of Fairford, Alabama and a resident of Mount Vernon, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022. Wilson was born March 17, 1947. He was an active member of Calvert Baptist Church. He retired after 33 years from Crescent Towing as a Captain. Wilson served as a Communication Specialist in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a former EMT with Mobile Fire Department, an auxiliary officer with the MOWA Choctaw Tribal Police Department and was elected as a State Constable in Mobile County. Wilson enjoyed fishing, hunting, riding his golf cart and gardening. He also loved spending time with his family, especially his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Estelle Johnston; brothers, Ronald and Larry Johnston; and in-laws, Odell and Marie Frazier.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 32 years, Ruth Johnston; children, Carlene Scrimpshire (David), Missy Stewart (Les), Brian Johnston, Kevin Johnston, Jason Johnston, Kyle Johnston, Courtney Clay (David); grandchildren, Matthew, Lauren, Kelsey, Madison, Abbie, Jakob, Blaine, and Nicholas; great grandchildren, Rylee Grace, Anniston Ruth, and Prestyn Blair; siblings, Mary McIlwain, Yvonne Thornton, Greg Johnston (Bonnie), and Vicki Dew (Dewayne); aunt, Ollie Johnson; in-laws, Ardella Ainsworth (Elonzo), Joe Frazier (Rhonda), Joan Hopkins (Paul), Sue Newburn (Bud), Ricky Frazier (Pam), Terry Rivers, and Darrell Frazier (Rachel); a host of nieces and nephews; and other relatives and many friends.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 31, 2022, from 9 am until the 11 am funeral service, at Calvert Baptist Church with Bro. Clay Lewis and Bro. Dean Hopkins officiating.
