Joseph Clifton Carter, Jr., a beloved member of the community and a dedicated chemical operator at Syngenta for 25 years, has passed away at the age of 81. He was born on January 11, 1942, and departed from this world on July 5, 2023.
Throughout his life, Joseph was known for his unwavering faith in God and his remarkable resilience. He approached every challenge with strength and faced adversity head-on. His generous nature and kind heart were evident to all who knew him. Joseph had an incredible ability to listen and offer guidance, earning him the reputation of being a cherished teacher and influential figure in the lives of many.
Joseph lived a life filled with love and devotion to his family. His wife of 58 years, Jeanette Prine Carter, stood by his side through thick and thin. Together, they raised two loving daughters - Lisa Carter Jordan (Rodney) and Kathryn Prine Long. Joseph adored his grandchildren - Ethan Jordan (Charley), Matthew Jordan, Haleigh Lammons, Bailey Long, Dakota Long, Clifton Ryan Long, and Sawyer Long - showering them with affection and imparting valuable life lessons.
In recent years, Joseph was overjoyed with the arrival of his great grandson, Carter Jordan. He cherished spending time with this young bundle of joy and looked forward to watching him grow.
Joseph's love for his family extended beyond his immediate kin; he fostered meaningful connections with relatives and friends. He is survived by his sister Gloria Jean Myrick (Barney), brother Bill Carter (Carolyn), brother-in-law D.W. Boothe; and sister-in-law, Annette Saranthus.
Born to Effie Carter Plemmons and Joseph Clifton Carter Sr., Joseph held deep respect for his roots. He treasured the memories shared with his late mother as well as those of his late father. The bond between siblings is an eternal one, and Joseph held a special place in his heart for his late sisters, Deloris Boothe and Verna Lee, as well as his late brother, Jimmy Dale Carter. He is also preceded in death by his great-granddaughter Collins Jordan.
Outside of work and family, Joseph found solace in several hobbies and interests. He was an avid supporter of Alabama football and took delight in cheering for his favorite team. Nature called to him, and he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and simply being outdoors. Furthermore, Joseph dedicated himself to serving both his church and the local community.
To honor the life of this remarkable individual, a visitation will be held on July 8, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Calvert Church of the Nazarene. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. Burial to follow at Pine Crest Cemetery. All friends and acquaintances are invited to pay their respects.
Joseph Clifton Carter, Jr.'s legacy will live on through the memories shared by those whose lives he touched. His unwavering faith, resilience, generosity, kind spirit, and strong-willed nature were an inspiration to all who had the privilege of knowing him. May we find solace in the knowledge that his soul rests peacefully as we celebrate a life well-lived.
