Joy Elaine Cochran

May 15, 1937 — December 17, 2013

Mrs. Joy McGahagin Cochran, born in Harbeson City, Florida on May 15, 1937 passed from this life into the presence of her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Citronelle Convalescent Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Ophelia Gay McGahagin; and sister, Delores Waldon. Left to cherish her memory, devoted and loving husband for over 60 years, Jesse V. Cochran, Jr; six children, Pamela Rogers, Adele Cochran, Denise Fisher, Stephanie (Randy) House, Jesse V. (Mary Jane) Cochran, III and Ronald Mark Cochran; twelve grandchildren, Kimberley Harrison, Jennifer (Jim) Boksa, Jessica Rogers, David Fisher, Jr., Rebekah Fisher, Jason House, Bridget (Devin) Judd, Brandon Cochran, Kristen (Cory) Giles, Jesse V. Cochran IV, Johnathan Cochran and Benjamin Cochran; great grandchildren, Zoe Wallace, Elizabeth Nolan, Preston Judd, Drakeson Giles, Krymsen Giles and Jesse V. Cochran V; sister, Barbara Logan; brother Kirby McGahagin; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mrs. Cochran was a well known and beloved member of the Turnerville community for the past 44 years. She was a faithful member of the Turnerville Holy Church of God and was a friend to all. When her youngest child began school, she embarked on a new career as a school bus driver and cafeteria worker. She retired after driving the bus for 25 years and working in the cafeteria for 17 years. During this time she loved each child in her charge and was their protector and friend. She made it her personal mission to ensure the safety and well being of each child. Everywhere she went, you could hear calls of “Mrs. Cochran, Mrs. Cochran!” Inevitably, it would be one of the children (now adults) who rode her bus or remembered her from the cafeteria, always coming for a neck hug and to reminisce about times gone by. She never met a stranger and would help anyone during a time of need. Due to her illness, she spent the latter part of her life with her daughter in Citronelle, Alabama during which she was a faithful member of Cedar Creek Holy Church of God and made many more friends. She was a devoted wife, precious mother and worked hard to take care of everyone. The Wake will be from 6-9 pm Friday, December 20, 2013 at Freeman Funeral Home. Her Home Going Celebration will be 10 am Saturday, December 21, 2013 at Cedar Creek Holy Church of God on Coy Smith Highway in Citronelle, Alabama with Rev. Darius Templeton, Rev. Huey Fillingim, Rev. Donnie Williamson and Rev. Robin Nelson officiating. Interment will follow in Wolfe Ridge Cemetery in Eight Mile, Alabama. All friends and family are welcome to attend.
