Larry Harlan McLain, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home on July 21 2024. Born October 7, 1951, Larry led a fulfilling life defined by hard work, dedication to his family and a strong sense of faith.
Throughout his career, Larry worked at Scott/Kimberly Clarke Paper Mill where he held various roles including machine tender, safety man, and first responder. His commitment to ensuring the safety of others was evident both in his professional life and personal relationships.
An independent and hardworking individual, Larry was known for his unwavering dedication to providing for his loved ones. His family always came first, and he took great pride in being a good provider. In addition to his work, Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, cheering on the Alabama football team, savoring good food, and watching TV in the comfort of his home.
Larry's proudest accomplishments included being a devout Christian and serving as the deacon of Bayou Sara Baptist Church. He found joy in spending time with his family, particularly his children and grandchildren whom he cherished deeply.
He is survived by his loving wife Vera Bradley McLain; children, Harlan "Grant" McLain (Donna), Larry "Peyton" McLain (Ellen), Vera "Denise" Bodiford (Scotty); grandchildren, Carey Alexander McLain, Mason Allen McLain, John Michael McLain, Holt Edward McLain, Jake Bradley McLain "Jakey B", Luke Grayson McLain "Lukey Joe", Anna Peyton McLain "Annie", Addison Claire Edmonds "Addi", and Carley Brooke Edmonds "Cool Baby"; siblings, James McLain, Steve McLain, Teresa Clemmons "Bee", and Carla Moss "Dolly"; as well as numerous nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Ethel McLain; and brothers, Homer Gene McLain and Ronnie McLain.
A wake will be held on July 24, 2024 from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM at Bayou Sara Baptist Church in Saraland, AL. The funeral service will take place the following day on July 25, 2024 at 11:00 AM at West Salem Baptist Church in Richton, MS with Dr. Grant McLain and Rev. Dennis Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in West Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.
Larry Harlan McLain will be remembered for his kind heart, strong work ethic, devotion to family, and unwavering faith. He touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
