Lena Covington, a beloved member of her family and community, passed away on November 29, 2024 at the age of 77. Born on September 9, 1947, Lena lived a life marked by her unwavering commitment to her faith and her family.
Lena was a faithful Christian who dedicated herself to helping anyone she could. Her kindness and generosity were evident in all that she did, and her warm spirit touched the lives of many. She was not only a devoted mother but also a proud grandmother and great-grandmother, with her family being her greatest accomplishment. Lena cherished her children, Gholey Buttram, Dillard Reed, and Cynthia Lofton (Duggar), as well as her grandchildren, Troy Buttram (Shelbie), Darla Johnston, Destiny Reed, and Dora Reed (Cameron Weaver). She took immense pride in her great-grandchildren, Kirsten, Tristalyn, Chasen, Diego, Emmy, Dracestyn, and Camila, who brought her boundless joy.
Lena's life was filled with many interests and hobbies. She loved shopping and traveling with family, enjoyed cooking, and found great fulfillment in her role at the church, where she played the organ. Her contributions to her church community were a testament to her dedication to her faith and to those around her.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a large extended family, including siblings, Johnny Reed (Joann), Ike Reed (Ann), Mike Reed (Lila), Leverta "Tootsie" Strahan (Jeorge), Jeanette McNeill (Michael), Lee "BooBoo" Reed (Carla), Josie Byrd (Joe), Theodore Reed (Misty), and Kirk Reed; brother-in-law, Clifton Covington (Erma); sisters-in-law, Mattie Moore (Don), Lois Anglin (Jim), Sylvia Reed (Collie), and Rhonda Echols (Timmy); along with a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly.
Lena was preceded in death by her husband, Dillard Glen Covington; her parents Clayton and Ida Mae Reed; her sisters Norma Gray and Maple Lemley; her brothers Irvin Reed and Lonnie "Dude" Reed; her mother and father-in-law Mary and Person Rivers; and her daughter-in-law Lisa Huckabee.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the 2:00 PM funeral service at Magnolia Holiness Church on Friday, December 6, 2024 with Bro. Ike Reed and Bro. Joe Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery.
Lena Covington leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and family that will continue to inspire those who knew her.
