Leonard "Sonny" Byrd

Leonard "Sonny" Byrd, age 84, a native and resident of Mount Vernon, AL, died Friday, June 10, 2011, at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center. Mr. Byrd retired from Alabama Drydock & Shipbuilding Company. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and his hobbies included reading, gardening and playing cards. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Jessie Mae (Weaver) Byrd; Three Daughters,Carolyn (Grover) Byrd, Lelia (Gary) Bynum, Barbara (Charles) Byrd, Seven Sons, Lebaron (Rena) Byrd, Lemural (Dawn) Byrd, Billy (Carol) Byrd , Jimmy (Malinda) Byrd, Timmy (Dottie) Byrd, Matt (Audrey) Byrd, John (Jessie) Byrd, twenty two grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. A wake will be 6-9 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2011 at Freeman Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2011 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Rev. C. J. Byrd, Rev. Sonny Scarbrough, Rev. George Weaver & Rev. Ron Hill officiating. Interment at Byrd Cemetery in Mount Vernon, AL. Citronelle, AL.
