Louis H. Mayo, 84, passed away Friday, December 22, 2017 at his residence. He grew up in Pensacola, Florida and married his Pensacola High sweetheart in 1951. He and Doraine (Pyle Mayo had four children, Catherine, Michael, Elaine, and Scott. He is preceded in death by their son, Michael, and his parents, Louis and Athalene Mayo. Mr. Mayo is survived by his loving wife of sixty six years; two daughters, Catherine Mayo Wright (Thomas) of Charlotte, NC; Elaine Mayo Pool (Jeff) of Decatur, AL; son, Scott W. Mayo, Pensacola, FL; granddaughter Laura Wright, Grandsons, Chris Wright(Jessica), S/Sgt. Jeffrey Pool, US Army and Jonathan Pool. Five great grandchildren, Cassidy Wright, Gabriel Wright, Olivia Wright, Madelyn Wright and Alanah Pool. Mr. Mayo volunteered and served with the 5th Air Force in the Korean War and was proud to have served his country. He was a member at large of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a charter member of Christ United Methodist Church Mobile, past member of the Administrative Board and also served in various volunteer jobs, among his favorites were the Lifegate program which helps the needy. He was a Early Responder with the Alabama West Florida Meth. Conference certified with chainsaws- mostly removing hazardous trees. Mr. Mayo was a past President of Rolling Acres Community Action Group. Mr. Mayo retired with forty two years of electrical work consisting of electrical and power line construction. He spent the last twenty nine years with Scott Paper (Later Kimberly Clark) where he retired as and electrical and instrumentation technician. While at Kimberly Clark, he was active with the Mobile United Fund. At Kimberly Clark, along with his regular work, he wrote an electrical safety booklet and taught classes in electrical safety. Visitation will be Wednesday December 27, 2017 from 10:00am until 11:00am at Christ United Methodist Church in Mobile, Alabama followed by a 11:00am church funeral. Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Gardens in Pensacola, Florida. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Lifegate Program at Christ United Methodist Church.
