Margie Powell Cunningham, a beloved member of her community and devoted family woman, passed away on April 12, 2025, at Crowne Healthcare of Citronelle. Born on September 12, 1948, Margie lived her life with an outgoing spirit and a heart full of love, qualities that endeared her to all who knew her.
For over 30 years, Margie served as a clerk at Dees Corner Store, where her friendly demeanor and genuine kindness made her a cherished figure in the lives of many. Whether a local regular or a first-time visitor, everyone was welcomed with her trademark warmth and engaging smile. It was here where she could truly connect with others, embodying the essence of community.
Margie’s interests and hobbies reflected her vibrant personality. She found joy in sewing, cooking, and embracing the great outdoors, often taking part in hunting and washer throwing. Her social nature led her to enjoy countless gatherings, where her fun-loving spirit shone brightly. Throughout her life, her proudest accomplishments were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who brought joy and fulfillment to her life.
Margie is survived by her children, Guy Cunningham (Misty), Theresa Dority (Dale), Donnie Cunningham (Judy), and Kim Sewell (Jeff); her grandchildren, Slayton Cunningham (Laci), Tyler Cunningham (Elizabeth), Wyatt Cowart, Courtney Reed (Clarence), Easton Brazell, Alexis Shaw, Destiny Delhomme, and Zeke Cowart; and her great-grandchildren, Scarlet Cunningham, Sebastian Cunningham, John Cunningham, Conley Brazell, Brendalyn Reed, Calianna Reed, Maela Reed, Emberley Milsted, James Milstead, Adalynn Milstead, and Jaxx Shaw. Additionally, she is remembered by her siblings, Janafay West and Darrell Powell (Loriane), along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other relatives and friends.
Margie is preceded in death by her husband, James Cunningham; her parents, Norris and Genevieve Powell; her sisters, Dorothy Powell, Elois Vickers, and Joanne Butler; and her brother, Clarence Powell.
Her legacy of love, laughter, and community spirit will remain in the hearts of those she touched throughout her life. Margie will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
