Marion T. Dees

Marion T. Dees Sr. "Bill" was born November 13, 1928 to the late Frank Dees and Monnie Weldy-Dees in Dr. Thompson's office in Citronelle, Alabama. He departed this life on January 24, 2017 at Providence Hospital. Bill attended Deer Park School and graduated from Fruitdale High School. He began working with Stallworth Land Company in the timber business and cruised timber fields in Honduras and Nicaragua for several years. Bill had a long career with Ben M. Radcliff Construction Company as a foreman of the Brick Mason Craft. He was a member of the Brick Layers Union Local #2. After retirement, he loved fishing in his ponds, raising quail, deer hunting, and growing vegetables in his garden! He was a member of Deer-Park volunteer Fire Department. He loved Community Christian Fellowship, where he served as a lifetime deacon. He was dearly loved by his Church family and community. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years Virginia Joyce Smith Dees, his siblings George Dees, Winfred Dees, Harold Dees, Lida Mae Dees Tyler and nephew, Lee Smith. He is survived by his children, Marion T. Dees, Jr . "Tommy" (Sherry), Dianne Dees, Janice “Neci” Dees Kelly (Tommy), Annette Dees Turner (Barton); grandchildren, Thomas Dees (Crystal), Tyler Dees (Shallon), Frank Byrd (Leslie), Kim Byrd Hanenkrat (Ryan), Audra Englebert (Derrick), Jeff Kelly (Lisa), Dana Mason (Jay) and Joshua Turner (Chelsea); brother, Sherwood Dees; brother in law, Donnie Alton Smith (Sheila); special nephews, Lonnie Smith and Sean Smith; great grandchildren: Breanna, C.T., Caden, Lucy, Ryleigh, Jay - David, Hunter, Blake, Gracie, Brock, Jackson, Carter, Griffin, Damien, Dreama, Taylor, Everett, Evan, Emery; and other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends Friday, January 27, 2017, from 10am until the 12pm funeral service at Community Christian Fellowship with Rev. Barton Turner and Rev. Stan Clayton officiating. Burial will follow at Deer Park Cemetery in Deer Park, Alabama. A special thanks to his home health provider, Amedisys, who provided loving and compassionate care during his last days. Mr. Dees will be remembered for always keeping a smile on his face during his illness while offering inspiration and happiness to all those that loved and supported him.
