Mavis Sutton Flowers, a native of Little Rock, Arkansas, and a resident of Chunchula, Alabama, passed away peacefully at her home Monday, August 02, 2021. She was 85 years old. Mavis was born January 06, 1936, to the late Omer and Loraine Clampitt. Mavis worked for 32 years with American Greetings before retiring. She loved feeding the ducks and animals in her yard by the pond, but her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She always looked forward to her days out with her nephew, Nathan, to go get her Whopper from Burger King. Her favorite nephew, Tommy Ray, was always welcomed home by her with his To-Do list she had prepared for him. Lisa, her granddaughter, made sure she always had fresh flowers to admire, and her best friend/sister-in-law, Katie, always made sure to call and talk to her on the phone every night. Mavis’ favorite part of the day was spending time with her nephew, Baby Tommy, as he greeted her at her bedroom door in the morning. Mavis also loved spending time with the family dogs and eating her fresh tomato sandwiches. Her family was the core of her life, and they will miss her greatly.
Mavis was preceded in death by her husbands, Larry Sutton and Robert Flowers; parents, Omer Woodrow and Loraine Emma Clampitt; and the best sister-in-law ever, Katie Blake.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Eddie Sutton (Felcia); granddaughter, Lisa Sutton; nephews, Nathan Hillman, Tommy Ray Oakley, I (Kelly), Tommy Ray Oakley, II (Savannah), Terry Lee Oakley (Crystal), Thomas Michael Oakley, Ariel Leanne Oakley, Tommy Ray Oakley, III, and Brayden Lee Oakley; and other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 10am until the 11am funeral service Monday, August 09, 2021, at Freeman Funeral Home with Rev. LaDarrell Thames, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers include Tommy Oakley, I, Terry Oakley, Thomas Oakley, Jimmy Head, Chris Sasser, and Nathan Head with honorary pallbearers including Nathan Hillman, William head, Tommy Oakley, II, and Chris Bowick.
