Mervin "Bing Bong" Reed, a beloved brother and cherished friend, passed away on March 30, 2025, at the age of 76. Born on February 4, 1949, Mervin lived a life full of joy and kindness, known fondly by his friends and family as “Bing Bong.”
Mervin's early years were marked by playful moments, particularly with his siblings, where he found great joy in swinging them around as they laughed and shouted with delight. This sense of playfulness and affection remained with him throughout his life.
He had a profound love for nature, especially during his younger days spent in the woods. Mervin was an avid walker, often choosing to cover great distances on foot rather than driving. His ability to walk considerable miles in a day was a testament to his adventurous spirit and independent nature.
Mervin enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved spending time with his friends after work, sharing laughs and stories. His appreciation for older country music was notable, with a particular fondness for Uncle Lonie. He found delight in watching wrestling, always eager to discuss the latest matches. Mervin was also knowledgeable about trees, sharing his passion for nature with those around him.
In matters of style, Mervin was known to have a penchant for cowboy boots, which complemented his warm personality. He shared a deep affection for animals, particularly cats, and his love for coffee was well-known among his friends and family, who often recalled his contentment over a freshly brewed cup.
Mervin is survived by his loving sisters, Linda S. Tanner, Peggy G. Adams, Patsy L. Reed, and Theresa L. Lassiter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lenzy Albert Reed and Willow Mae Rivers Reed, and by his siblings, Becky L. Sheldt, Lonnie Reed, Charles “Chuck” Reed, and Lenzy “Len” Reed.
Mervin "Bing Bong" Reed will be remembered for his zest for life, his unwavering affection toward his family, and his ability to uplift the spirits of those around him. His legacy of joy and love will remain in the hearts of all who knew him.
Graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, April 11, 2025, at Hillspring Cemetery.
