Mildred “Millie” Laslie, a resident of Mobile, Alabama, passed away Wednesday, June 08, 2016. She was 89 years old. Mildred was born October 18, 1926, to Henry and Mary Lizzie Fillingim in Tuskegee where she was raised and later taught at Macon Academy. Millie graduated from The University of South Carolina where she was a cheerleader and earned her Masters of Education at Auburn University (War Eagle!) She touched many lives throughout her career as a teacher and educational administrator. Her legacy is one of gracious hospitality, southern gentility, and unconditional love. She enjoyed taking care of her family, including all of her Boston Terriers, and loved to cook and entertain. She encouraged and uplifted everyone she met. She had a generous spirit and was always willing to help anyone who was in need. Millie had a delightful sense of humor and was an engaging storyteller. Millie also loved to travel and was a lifelong adventurer. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, working crossword puzzles, and listening to good jazz music. Mildred was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt. She was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Laslie and all of her siblings: Henry Fillingim, Jr., Sidney Fillingim, and Allie Fay Harman. Those left to cherish her memory include sons, James Fisher, Jr. (Kathy) and John Steven Fisher (Susanna); granddaughters, Alexandra Fisher-Willis (Drew) and Nicole Fisher; great granddaughter, Layla Marie; nieces, Libby, Lyn, Gaye, Flo, and Manny and nephew, Henry Fillingim; and other relatives and friends. The family would like to express their appreciation to Valerie Norwood for her loving and compassionate care, along with the staff at Crowne Healthcare of Springhill. The family will receive friends from 1pm until the 2pm Memorial Service Saturday, June 11, 2016, at Wilmer United Methodist Church, 13370 Avenue B in Wilmer, Alabama.
