Nettie Elsie “Nell” Whatley, 71, a native of Sylacauga, Alabama, longtime resident of Citronelle, Alabama and resident of Mobile, Alabama passed away Saturday, February 06, 2016 at Providence Hospital. She owned and operated Nell’s Yogurt Shop for many years. Nell was a member of Whatley Holy Church of God where she taught Sunday school, loved singing and praising the Lord. She was loved and will be truly missed. Nell was preceded in death by her parents, Ira Owings and Louise Stubbfield Owings. Left to cherish her memory is husband of 54 years, Daniel Edward Whatley, Jr.; children, Cookie Skipper (Terry), Daniel E. Whatley, III (Janie), Sharon Whigham (Anthony) and Brenda Covert (Bobby); eleven grandchildren, Venus Gunter (Elton), Clarissa Leeann Skipper (Nick), Daniel Whatley, IV., Matthew Whatley, Shilo Whatley, Ashley Whigham, Jessica Whigham, Melissa Whigham, Erick Wilkerson, Curtis Wilkerson and Will E. Wilkerson (Desiree); seven great grandchildren; four siblings; other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 9:30 am until the 11am funeral service on Monday, February 08, 2016, at Whatley Holy Church of God with Bro. Gaylon Cunningham, Bro. Clarence Jones, Bro. Jimmy Lloyd, Bro. Jimmy McDuffie and Bro. David Turner officiating. Burial will be in Whatley Cemetery. Online condolences may be given at www.freemancitronelle.com.
