Olive Elizabeth “Bettye” Rogers, 88, passed away peacefully October 4, 2014 at her residence in Elberta, Alabama. Bettye was born in Citronelle, Alabama, graduated from Citronelle High School and attended the University of Alabama. She was a member of the Citronelle United Methodist Church. Bettye lived in Meridian, Mississippi for many years while her daughter grew up. She made her home in Mobile, Alabama while working as a clerical worker for the State of Alabama Pensions and Security Department. During her retirement she moved to the Live Oak Assisted Living in Foley, Alabama. Bettye was preceded in death by her parents, Ira Dewey & Louella (Fairley) Wyatt; brother, James D. Wyatt; former husband, Rex P. Rogers; brother-in-law, James H. Smith, Jr.; sister-in-law, Virginia Speer Wyatt and longtime companion, B. R. “Tabe” McLaney. Bettye is survived by her daughter, Bettye Jo Rogers; sister, Mary Joan Wyatt Smith; three nieces, Judy Stokes Wyatt (John) Humphrey, Susan Virginia Wyatt (Douglas) Hurley and Martha Anne Wyatt (Mike) Boothe; and extended family and friends. The family is extremely grateful for the tender loving care provided to her by Rebecca Lowry, Asceracare Hospice, Amedisys Home Health and Live Oak Assisted Living. The graveside service will be 11am Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Citronelle United Methodist Cemetery. Online condolences may be given at www.freemancitronelle.com.
