Orsen Emerson “O.E.” Smyly, Jr., 73, a native of Magnolia, Alabama and resident of Mt. Vernon, Alabama passed away Thursday, May 14, 2015 at his home. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, later worked as an electrician at Searcy Hospital for over 30 years and millwright at Armstrong and G.A. West until his retirement. He was a Deacon at Lockler Memorial Baptist Church and enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. But his greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory is wife of 44 years, Charlotte Elmore Smyly; son, Chris Smyly; daughter and son-in-law, Kelly Smyly Mott and Michael Mott; grandson, Stephen Mott; granddaughter, Danielle Mott; three devoted sister-in-laws, Cheryl (Joe) Chestang, Elaine Elmore (Wayne) Miller and Cathy (John) Moorer; two brother-in-laws, James (Angela) Elmore and Charles (JoAnn) Elmore; nephew, Bill Reeves; numerous other relatives and friends. The wake will begin at 6pm on Monday, May 18, 2015 at Lockler Memorial Baptist Church. The funeral service will be 10am on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the church with Rev. Roger Perkins officiating.
