Prentiss Byrd, 69, a resident of McIntosh, Alabama passed away Monday, June 8, 2015 at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center. He was a member of Memorial Baptist Church and retired from the State of Alabama Forestry Commission. Prentiss received 3 Bronze Stars while serving in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and transferred the Naval Reserve after active service, then he joined the Alabama National Guard and retired after 22 years. Prentiss enjoyed gardening, getting firewood and spending time with his family and friends. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 44 years Barbara J. Byrd; sons, Wendall (Marilyn) Byrd, Victor (Tiffany) Byrd and Dexter (Jennifer) Byrd; grandchildren, Brooklyn, Julianne, Gavin, Timmeryln, Lorrie, and Blake; brother, Eddie Byrd; sisters, Nelrie Carroll, Lola Taylor, Nancy Chestang, Shirley Byrd and Kathyrn Harvey; other relatives and friends. A wake will be held Thursday, June 11, 2015 from 6pm – 9pm at Freeman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 11am Friday, June 12, 2015 at Reed’s Chapel Baptist Church with Rev.
